The cutter uses micrometer regulation knobs for depth and spacing adjustments. The spring-loaded carriage is designed to provide consistent cutting pressure which reduces the potential for miss-cuts. Its spring-loaded key gauge automatically releases as the carriage is raised. The key cutter’s motor activation is automatically controlled by raising and lowering the carriage. The ratchet-style vise jaws include two positions to grip cylinder keys and double-sided thin blades. The KD50C features wide-spaced vise jaws that are designed to accommodate longer blade keys and large bowhead keys. The KD50C can duplicate standard type residential, commercial, padlock, and automotive keys without any adapters. Key cutting involves placing a flat key into a vise in a cutting machine with a blank attached to a parallel bise, and the original key is moved along a guide while the blank is moved against a wheel, which cuts the new key. Key duplication refers to the process of creating a key based on an existing key. The Ilco Orion KD50C is a semi-automatic key duplicating machine.
